Longmont to vote on Gun Issue (update)

Written by Administrator
Update July 14 2010

Last night the City council voted in support of the ordnance to disallow open carry in public facilities (including the rec center) by a vote of 5 to 2.  Our Honorable Mayor Baum and Councilwoman Witt were the only dissectors and deserve our thanks for standing up for our 2nd amendment rights.  In an effort to improve actual security, it was moved that bullet proof glass be installed in some of the more volatile locations, such as utilities.  Mayor Baum also moved to allow, I believe, at least concealed carry in public open spaces, but I need to get more details on these last two points.

A letter from Sen. Harvey Letterhead

Written by Administrator

Sen Harvey Letterhead

Dear Friend,

The chants for gun control are at a fevered pitch.

The Columbine tragedy started them.  The Virginia Tech tragedy and other shootings around the country have poured gasoline on the fires.

And with Democrats in charge of the State House – where I used to serve – and the State Senate – where I serve now, gun owners are in an extremely delicate position.

    The only option is…to fight.
I pledge to you that I will fight, and fight hard, to defend your gun rights.
The question is, will you fight?
Will you join Rocky Mountain Gun Owners?
I’m convinced that Rocky Mountain Gun Owners is our only hope.

Now, if you're already a member and we've somehow made a mistake (since I'm sending this out as an e-mail), let me thank you for your commitment to our gun rights.

But I believe this is so vital that I had to urge you to make sure.

I don’t think the war to defend our gun rights – and reclaim those we’ve lost – will be won by institutional “gun lobbies” who cut deals with the devil, and compromises our rights away.

Much of the gun control we have is due to those kinds of compromises, and it’s why I’m a staunch advocate for Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

No one else in Colorado has the guts to stand firm, even in the face of withering adversity.

When the two lawless thugs entered Columbine High School 11 years ago and violated dozens of laws, only one group had the guts to say “Don’t destroy my freedoms”.

And that’s exactly what they’ve been doing for a decade – defending your rights, here in Colorado, without compromise.

Smart, tough and savvy… and based here in Colorado, not thousands of miles away.  What more could you want from a group?

Right now, I’ve very worried about our state.

Without a large team of gun rights activists –- like yourself –- working together with a hard-nosed gun rights group – like RMGO –- we’re only going to lose ground.

In the past years we have mounted a good defense of our gun freedoms in Colorado, but only because of the leadership from Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and their strong membership.

We’ve worked hard to pass strong, pro-gun legislation.

In fact, I was the Senate sponsor of the “Make my Day Better” bill.  Unfortunately, we didn’t have the votes to pass it, but I vow to try again.

So, why not join RMGO today?

Seriously -- What are you waiting for?

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners must become even stronger to repel attacks on our firearms rights, and the only way they become stronger is with help from people exactly like you.

I hope you care enough about your gun rights that you will join with Rocky Mountain Gun Owners in this epic battle for freedom.

RMGO is simply Colorado’s only real gun lobby.

I should know: while at the Capitol, the only gun lobby that helps us kill bills that take away your gun rights, and stand firmly for freedom, is Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

The only organization that is working for true concealed carry reform –- a Vermont law, like the bill just signed into law in Arizona -- is Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

The only group that opposed adding concealed weapons permit holders into a criminal database is Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, who warned legislators in 2003 that this was a major problem.

The only group who works to advance the yard markers in the direction of freedom –- as opposed to some, who move the markers in the opposite direction –- is Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

The only group who asks tough questions of candidates for office is Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

The only Colorado group that will defend your gun rights without compromise is RMGO.

And RMGO is the only group that is tough enough to hold elected officials accountable, rather than pamper them when they are double-dealing behind gun owners’ backs.

Now, all of us are members of other groups.  Some of those groups simply raise money by talking about Colorado issues, but have never done a thing in our state.  Others are active in our state, but compromise whenever the heat is on (and trust me, the heat is on to pass gun control).

But it is essential that you be an active member in a Colorado-based group like RMGO, who won’t compromise away our freedoms.

There isn’t another group that keeps a vigilant watch on the Colorado Capitol, ready to pounce on gun control measures.

But, RMGO is nothing without their grassroots members. Which is why I’m asking you to join RMGO.  Today.

They couldn’t hope to defeat the slew of anti-gun measures without your phone calls, faxes, postcards, e-mails, letters… and your financial support.

Realistically, they can’t exist unless you will stand firm and commit whatever you can to the fight.

I know that without RMGO, and you as an active member, our rights will surely be overcome.

So please, take the time to join RMGO today.

By clicking on this link, you can join with your 2010 Membership to Rocky Mountain Gun Owners right away.

I hope you will join with me in supporting Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, and standing for our rights.

    For Freedom and Liberty,

    Ted Harvey

Congress May Vote On D.C. Gun Ban Repeal Next Week

Here is the original site

Friday, April 16, 2010

News reports indicate that the U.S. House of Representatives may consider legislation next week to which an amendment reforming Washington, D.C.’s restrictive gun laws would likely be offered. The bill—H.R. 157, the District of Columbia Voting Rights Act, introduced by the District’s anti-gun delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton—proposes that the city be authorized a vote in the United States House of Representatives.

NRA members recall that last year, a similar “D.C. House Voting Rights Act” bill—S. 160, introduced by Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.)—passed in the Senate after adoption of Sen. John Ensign’s (R-Nev.) amendment restoring the Second Amendment rights of residents of our nation’s capital. Supporters of H.R. 157 did not pursue it at that time, however, to perpetuate gun control in D.C.

NRA members are urged to check the www.nraila.org website on a daily basis next week, for information concerning the status of H.R. 157 and any amendment that is offered to deal with the District’s gun laws.  And, you are encouraged to be ready to contact your U.S. Representatives to ask that they support any such amendment that is proposed.
